Sightseeing destinations in Hassan

Known for its temples and rich history, Hassan is a popular weekend getaway from Bangalore. Below are some of the popular tourist places to see in Hassan during your road trip from Bangalore with Bangalore Wheels:

1. Shettihalli Rosary Church

The Shettihalli Rosary Church is widely famous for its ruined edifice and is the most visited place in Hassan. The church was built sometime during the 1860s by the French missionaries and is a perfect example of a Gothic architectural style. Due to its location being close to the Gorur Dam, the church remains submerged in water during monsoons. The submerged church looks amazingly attractive.

2. Gorur

Home to one of the biggest reservoirs of Karnataka, Gorur also boasts of hosting a number of Hoysala Temples. A temple dedicated to Lord Paravasudeva is dedicated right at the entrance gate of Gorur whereas, the well- known temple dedicated to Lord Yoganarsimha is built on the banks of Hemvathi River, very close to the dam. Book a Bangalore to Hassan cab and visit the famous temples and the dam here.

The Gorur dam, also known as Hemvathi Dam is constructed across the Hemvathi river, an important tributary to the Cauvery River. Built in 1979, the dam provides water for irrigation, drinking and household purposes. Covering a catchment area of about 2,810 Square kilometers, the dam is 4,692 m long and 58.5 m high.

3. Hasanamba Temple

The Goddess of Hasanamba might be known by one name but is believed to be a trinity and hence, the temple premises dedicate three temples to Hasanamba, Darbar Ganapati and Siddeshwara respectively. Collectively, they are called the Shakti- Swaroopinis who are settled in the beautiful city of Hassan.

4. Mahalakshmi Temple, Doddagadavahalli

Believed to be the first temple built in Hoysala style, the Doddagaddavalli temple is dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi and can be visited with a private taxi from Bangalore Wheels. It has the idol of the Goddess Mahalakshmi enshrined in both Vaishnavite and Shaivite practices of worship. This is the only Hoysala temple to have such an unique feature for the idol of the central deity.

Even though it is named after Goddess Mahalakshmi, there are three other shrines of Lord Mahavishnu, Lord Bhoothanatha and Goddess Mahakali thus becoming the only example of Chatush-Kuta or Four Shrined order of temples built in Hoysala style.
